Taking Classes in Other NYU Schools

Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA)

Notes, Advice and Tips About TSOA
  • Most classes at TSOA are restricted to TSOA students. However, the school publishes a directory (TSOA Cross-Registration Handbook) of TSOA courses open to all students at NYU. It is available at specialprograms.tisch.nyu.edu/page/openClasses
  • Some departments in TSOA NOT listed in the TSOA Cross-Registration Handbook regularly let Gallatin students register for their seminar classes, but prohibit Gallatin students from entering studio classes. In the past, Gallatin students have taken courses in the Department of Art and Public Policy, the Department of Cinema Studies, the Department of Undergraduate Drama, the Performance Studies Department and the Interactive Telecommunications Program.
  • For information on the possibility of registering for a TSOA course NOT listed in the TSOA Cross-Registration Handbook, begin by carefully reading all notes published under the specific course listing in the NYU Directory of Classes, and then review any notes and/or instructions printed under the departmental heading.
  • In nearly all cases, you will need to contact the department offering the course to determine if you are eligible to enroll or if you need special registration permission. (Click here for departmental phone numbers: TSOA Contact Information)
  • Some TSOA courses are duplicated in the School of Ed and in SCPS. Check the School of Ed and SCPS course offerings in the NYU Directory of Classes. These courses are often easier to get into than courses in TSOA.
