Taking Classes in Other NYU Schools
College of Arts and Science (CAS)
Notes, Advice and Tips About CAS
- Many Gallatin students enjoy classes listed under the Morse Academic Plan (MAP) in the NYU Directory of Classes.
- Students wishing to take foreign language, mathematics or computer science courses in CAS may be required to take a placement exam. If you have a question about any CAS course or instructor, you can contact their Advising Center directly at (212) 998-8130.
Many introductory CAS courses are 4-credit lectures that also require you to enroll in a 0-credit discussion section or lab. For example, “Introduction to Sociology” is a lecture course with a discussion section. In the Fall 2002 NYU Directory of Classes the course is listed like this:
V93.-0001001 Intro to Sociology 4.0 LEC MW 12:30PM-01:45PM
STUDENTS MUST ALSO REGISTER FOR RCT SEC 004-011
V93.-0001004 Intro to Sociology 0.0 RCT M 08:00AM-09:15AM
V93.-0001005 Intro to Sociology 0.0 RCT W 08:00AM-09:15AM

In this example a student may choose from 8 different RCT sections. If one RCT section is closed, the student should choose another.
