The Community Learning Initiative (CLI) Grant is now available to assist faculty, clubs, organizations, groups, or individual students in sponsoring programs, projects, or events for the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. CLI bridges the gap between the classroom and the outside world by creating innovative partnerships with community-based organizations, groups and individuals, in addressing real-world problems and implementing practical solutions. The CLI grant provides an additional opportunity for individual students and groups to take part in this initiative. For more information on CLI or the CLI Grant, please contact Melissa Daniel at melissa.daniel@nyu.edu.

In order to be considered, grant proposals must meet the following funding requirements:

Proposed event, project, or initiative must
  • Actively engage with the local New York City community
  • Generate a reciprocal relationship that provides benefit and education to both a community in need and Gallatin students
  • Offer a reflective and dialogical space wherein students and community members can think about their experiences and reflect on the meaning and ethics of their practice, both individually and for their communities at large.

Please give a brief description of your organization or group, highlighting your individual and/or collective qualifications for conducting this project:

For what event or program are you requesting funds? What are your goals for this event or program? How will this program contribute to the Community Learning Initiative, the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and the wider New York community?

Please outline your budget; provide amounts requested in such categories as space rental, advertising, speaker honoraria, etc.

Please note: funding is limited and will be distributed based on availability, need, and quality of proposal. Typically, grants will not exceed a total of $200. Faculty and students will receive the grant in the form of reimbursement toward payments made; therefore, it is essential that you retain and submit all necessary original itemized receipts. Faculty, please note that course related funding and guest speaker honorariums can be requested here: http://www.nyu.edu/gallatin/facultystaff/forms.html.  The CLI grant should cover either expenses not relevant to these available faculty resources, or expenses that exceed your available allocation.

You will be reimbursed up to the approved amount only.
