Steve Fraser is an historian, writer, and editor. His work focuses on American economic, political, and cultural history in the 19th and 20th centuries. His first book, Labor Will Rule: Sidney Hillman and the Rise of American Labor (Free Press, 1991) won the Phillip Taft Prize for the best book in labor history. Fraser is also the author of Every Man a Speculator: A History of Wall Street in American Life (Harper Collins, 2005) and Wall Street: America's Dream Palace (Yale University Press, 2008), and coeditor of The Rise and Fall of the New Deal Order (Princeton University Press, 1989) and Ruling America: A History of Wealth and Power in a Democracy (Harvard University Press, 2005). His work has appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Nation, as well as in various scholarly journals. He is the cofounder of the American Empire Project, an imprint of Metropolitan Books.
