In Spring 2008 NYU Recycling Shop conducted its first waste characterization study of the Washington Square campus. The study results show that 59% of NYU's landfilled waste is compostable and another 28% is recyclable. Our recycling rates have been steadily improving but more can be done. Waste reduction should be the priority, followed by reuse of materials and then recycling or composting what remains. If we work toward improving efforts in these areas we could reduce the amount of waste we generate to 10% of its current volume. For the Full Report (pdf), Click Here |
