New York University is constructing a new building behind the façades at 12 – 16 Waverly Place to create space for its Center for Comparative Functional
Genomics. To learn more about the project and be updated on its progress, please visit this website on a regular basis or join our mailing list to automatically receive website update notices.
Project Overview
12-16 Waverly Place will become the new home for the Center for Comparative Functional Genomics(CCFG). Genomics is a rapidly emerging field, which has as its goal the analysis of the complete genetic material of organisms. The Center will focus on using evolutionary insights to address biological networks. Faculty affiliated with the Center sponsor seminars and offer courses in Genomics and Bioinformatics.
The façades of the current buildings will be preserved and restored, including the removal of the fire escape which was added in 1923. The new building will be built behind it.
When completed, the CCFG will be approximately 70K square feet (adding 20K to the existing building.) It will house classrooms, faculty offices, conference and meeting rooms as well as laboratories (genomic/biology and computer) with an Open Laboratory Design.
The project is scheduled to begin the summer of 2007 and be completed by the spring of 2010.
Main Phases
Phases 1 and 2 will include the demolition of the building behind the façade and the support of the existing façade. At this time, the building’s new superstructure will also be erected (new steel columns and floors). The last stage of the project will be the interior build-out of the space.
A phased schedule is available.
