In 1972, Mark IV Films, produced the feature film, A Thief in the Night about a woman who realizes the end of the world is coming when her husband suddenly disappears as part of the rapture. Later films in this series included A Distant Thunder (1977), Image of the Beast (1981) and Prodigal Planet (1987). Since the 1980s, the apocalyptic film market has expanded with the release of Apocalypse and the Left Behind films.
