ADVANCED SPECIALIZATION IN COUPLE AND FAMILY THERAPY

The Advanced Specialization in Couple and Family Therapy is a one-year program for licensed doctoral-level mental health professionals with a doctoral degree who are licensed to practice a mental health profession, sponsored by the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. Our focus is on integrating a psychoanalytic perspective with systemic theory and practice to promote an in-depth understanding of individual family members within a context of interactional and intergenerational dynamics. We have designed a comprehensive curriculum to cover all the major issues in current couple and family treatment, divided into three sections: theory, intervention, and special issues.

We offer 30 weeks of two-hour seminars, along with monthly small-group consultation meetings. Instructors for the program will be NYU Postdoctoral community members who have particular expertise in working with couples and families, along with monthly small group consultation meetings. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 12:15 until 2 p.m., with times for the consultation sessions to be arranged.

Classes will meet in the offices of the instructors. Tuition cost for this specialization is $1750 per year. Applications for Fall 2008 are due by May 1.
