Welcome!
The officers of the Museum Studies Student Organization (MSSO) would like to
welcome you to the Program in Museum Studies at New York University.
The mission of MSSO is to provide resources for the academic, professional, and social
development of graduate students in Museum Studies. Throough a wide array of events and
activities, we strive to foster a dialogue among museum studies students and alumni,
faculty, and the larger arts and cultural sector in New York City. Our goals are for graduate
students in Museum Studies program to engage in museum-related discourse, network within
the museum field, and build personal relationships within the Program and with alumni. We endeavor
to represent the broad interests of our diverse graduate student population and provide support
for students to organize educational activities and social events that enrich student life
academically, professionally and socially at NYU.
MSSO contributes to student life in a variety of ways, including: scheduling guest lectures,
sending student ambassadors to museum related conferences, collaborating with other student
groups to further develop and encourage museum and arts curricula, and organizing events
to help students stay on top of course requirements as well as introducing them to new
developments in the field. In addition, the MSSO sponsors social events that bring the
MSSO students together as a community through monthly social nights, museum visits and outings.
As matriculated graduate students of the NYU Program in Museum Studies, all Museum Studies
graduate students are members of MSSO. Although active participation is not mandatory,
getting involved in MSSO activities is a great way to introduce yourself to the Program and
your fellow students. The officers of MSSO are here specifically to serve your educational,
social, and career development needs and we look forward to hearing from you and working with
you in the 2008-2009 academic year.
