Master of Arts Degree in Africana Studies with Concentration
in Museum Studies
This Concentration combines study of African culture, literature, and politics
with professional training in Museum Studies. It is designed for those who
intend to pursue careers in museums and cultural organizations, and those
currently employed in the field who wish to acquire formal training. The
program offers individualized internship placement and provides comprehensive
knowledge of the contemporary theory and practice of museum work, as well as a
substantive curriculum in Africana Studies. Students complete 36 points of
course work: 20 points of Africana Studies, 16 points of Museum Studies, plus
a full summer internship in a museum or cultural institution, and a Master’s
essay based on the student’s combined study and internship. Required courses
include: two courses in Africana Studies, and one area studies course, and
History and Theory of Museums (G49.1500), or Museum Collections and Exhibitions (G49.1501). For

Master of Arts Degree in Hebrew and Judaic Studies with Concentration
in Museum Studies
A candidate for this degree must complete 38 points and a full summer internship
in a museum or cultural institution. This specific area of studies is intended
primarily for those who are or will be working as museum professionals in collections
relating to Jewish history and civilization. Students interested in this program

Master of Arts Degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies with
Concentration in Museum Studies
Those planning careers in cultural affairs, art, government, and museums are
encouraged to apply. The specific series of courses with a concentration in
Museum Studies requires the completion of 36 points (16 in Museum Studies)

Master of Arts Degree in Near Eastern Studies with Concentration
in Museum Studies
This Program requires completion of 48 points of course work (32 in Near
Eastern studies, and 16 in Museum Studies); a full summer internship in a
museum or cultural institution; and a Master's essay combining topics in
Near Eastern study and museology. Required courses include Problems and
Methods in Middle Eastern Studies (G77.1687); one Near Eastern history
course and two area studies courses; either History
and Theory of Museums (G49.1500), or Museum Collections
and Exhibitions (G49.1501); and Research Seminar (G49.3991). All candidates
must demonstrate language competence in either Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or
