Professor Apter
The rich and diverse literary works by women express their
individuality and their important social and cultural role in France
from the 12th century to the present. The course studies both the changing sociohistorical context of these writers and the common
problems and themes that constitute a female tradition. Writers include Marie
de France, Christine de Pisan, Marguerite de Navarre,
Mme. de Sévigné, Germaine
de Staël, George Sand, Colette, Simone de Beauvoir, and Marguerite Duras.
Taught in English.
