Facilities

NYU features state-of-the-art teaching facilities, each configured for digital and multi-media instruction. The Noah Greenberg Collection of Musical Instruments (containing the collection of the New York Pro Musica Antiqua) forms the nucleus of the department's ensemble for the performance of early music, the Collegium Musicum. The Affelder Collection of World Musical Instruments serves as a source for the performance collection of the World Music Ensembles and also as a repository of rare and important instruments for study and classroom use. The Ethnomusicology Laboratory and the Washington Square Computer Music Studio provide digital resources for research and composition.

NYU Music Resources

Many resources are available for student use, including the Bobst Library, which houses an important collection of music, books, periodicals, videos/DVDs, and microfilms of relevance to musical study. The Avery Fisher Listening Center in the Bobst Library offers students and faculty access to recorded sound sources. Our students can take part in ensembles resident in the Music Department, those sponsored by the NYU Center for Music Performance, and those sponsored by the Steinhardt School of Education Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
