MARC is the address for graduate students and faculty conducting research
in medieval, Renaissance, and/or early modern studies. As such, MARC
encourages the offering of interdisciplinary courses in areas that are critical
for our fields but which regular departments seldom offer. It provides
current information about graduate-level medieval and Renaissance courses
being offered or planned in the near future by faculty at NYU and other institutions
that are part of the New York area Academic Consortium for Doctoral Students.
MARC shall sponsor conferences, lectures, and seminars during the year. Distinguished scholars shall be brought to campus for periods of two to four
weeks in residence, during which they will lecture and conduct workshops
open to graduate students and faculty of all disciplines, including those
at other New York institutions. Through MARC, NYU maintains an institutional
association with the Folger Institute, and eligible graduate students may
attend the seminars and workshops offered by the Folger each year tuition-free.
MARC, along with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), also sponsors
MARGIN, an interdisciplinary group for graduate students working in medieval
and Renaissance subjects.
