- Laboratory Research - genome mapping and the search for "eye" genes in Mexican cave fishes. Phylogenetic relationships of SE Asian hill stream loaches.
- Field Research - active primary programs of exploration and discovery in Thailand and Mexico. Collaborative field programs with scientists from Brazil and Russia.
- Training - at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Public Education - in cooperation with the New York Aquarium.
- International Visiting Scientists and Scholars - active collaborations with institutions and individual researchers from Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland and Russia.
