Back-up Child and Adult Care

NYU offers subsidized in-home back-up care for children and adult dependents.

When you need to be at work and your usual care is unavailable, your dependent is mildly ill and cannot attend their regular program, you have an unexpected change in your work schedule, or your dependent's school or day care program is closed unexpectedly, care is available nationwide.

NYU subsidizes 75% of the cost of care for up to 50 hours per calendar year. Pre-registration is required; the program description and registration form is available here.

To be eligible, an employee must register for the program and:

  • Be a member of the full-time Faculty (Code 102), Administrative & Professional staff (Code 100) and Professional Research staff (Code 103).
  • Have a child 6 months through 12 years of age (or any physically or mentally disabled child under the age of 18 who is unable to care for himself or herself) who resides with you and for whom you provide primary (or shared primary) support.
  • Have an adult/elder dependent (your spouse, registered same sex domestic partner, parent, parent-in-law, or grandparent) living in the U.S.for whom you have responsibility.
  • Use the service because you need to be at work and your usual care is unavailable or your dependent is mildly ill.

(For more details and a definition of mildly ill, see program description.)
