Many of the child care centers in the Greenwich Village area seek applications from families during the Fall preceding the year in which enrollment is desired. Others accept applications throughout the year and will admit children as space becomes available. This is true throughout the NYC metropolitan area.
While most programs and schools begin September with a full roster of students, gaining a seat for your child at other times is possible. It is important to schedule visits to those programs that you are interested and place your name on their waitlist so that you will be considered is a space becomes available.
Child Care Information and Referral Services are available to assist faculty, administrators, and staff with identifying and evaluating licensed child care options for children birth through school-age in their home community, near back-up resources, or near the University. The referral service can also help you hire an individual to provide care in your home. NYU's Employee Assistance Program, Carebridge Life Resources, has trained counselors available by phone (800-437-0911) 24 hours each day, 7 days a week.
Networking with friends and colleagues, placing advertisements in the local newspapers, posting or searching for notices on bulletin boards in local early childhood programs, supermarkets, etc. are all good source options for child care providers.
In addition, The NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development accepts on-line job postings for part-time, full-time and evening babysitting positions free of charge. For a description of how to post your job, click here (PDF).
