When juggling the many responsibilities in our professional and personal lives, caring for ourselves often falls to the bottom of our to-do lists. Many people feel like they don't have the time or energy to eat well, exercise regularly, or simply put themselves first when they need it most. At NYU, we believe that a culture of self-care is essential for establishing a healthy, thriving, and progressive university.
Work Life intends to weave an emphasis on emotional well-being, mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, and self-care into every aspect of our work at NYU. We will contribute to the overall well-being of the NYU community by informing policy and introducing programming to address our faculty's needs.
Self-care looks different for everyone. While some may choose to go for a walk outside, others may hit the treadmill or draw a bath. Smart Healthy Living recently surveyed 900 people about their self-care activities and found that spending time alone was the most popular self-care habit.
