Privacy of a Student's Educational Records

Among its several purposes, the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) was enacted to protect the privacy of a student’s education records, by limiting access to student records and the disclosure of information contained in them, to establish the rights of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide students with an opportunity to have inaccurate or misleading information on their education records corrected.
