Welcome to NYU Faculty Housing. Your move-in process will be primarily managed by NYU's property manager, Cushman & Wakefield. Please refer to the information below to guide you through your move.
Please first communicate your desired move-in and lease start date to the Office of Faculty Housing. This information will then be forwarded to Cushman & Wakefield on your behalf.
Once your dates are finalized, please contact Michael Broderick at Cushman & Wakefield to schedule a lease signing appointment (firstname.lastname@example.org; 646.997.9988). More often than not, incoming tenants schedule this appointment for the morning of their move-in date.
Your lease signing will take place in Cushman & Wakefield's office located in 2 Washington Square Village, #1-O (across from the lobby entrance to 2 Washington Square Village). Keys are released to you on your lease start date.
We require that move-ins occur Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. To remain considerate of current residents, we do not allow any exceptions to this policy. Below are moving companies that have been recommended by other faculty members and have current insurance certificates on file with NYU:
If you do not use one of the above companies, you may review top rated companies listed by Consumer Affairs. However, prior to moving in, a certificate of moving insurance must be supplied to Cushman & Wakefield by your moving company:
Elevators must also be reserved in advance of your move. To reserve and elevator, please contact the Client Services Center:
Upon signing your lease, you will be required to provide two (2) separate payments:
Both payments must be made payable to New York University. For your convenience, Cushman & Wakefield accepts personal checks, money orders, and certified bank checks (they do not accept credit cards or cash payments).
A completed IRS Form W-9 is also required so we can keep your security deposit in a trust account while you are a resident. It is strongly recommended that you type into the form as illegible handwriting will lead to complications with your deposit.
NYU allows pets in its residential buildings. As per NYU Faculty Housing lease Section 26.a, tenants are permitted 1-dog or 2-house cats. Tenants are not to exceed this allocation.
A pet deposit of $500 is required at lease signing and may be returned to you upon move out if no pet damage has occurred. Please review your lease for the full terms and conditions of pet ownership.
The Washington Square Village Playground ("Key Park") is open to residents of NYU rental housing and community members in the Washington Square neighborhood. The playground key application must be submitted to Cushman & Wakefield at lease signing. The Playground is for children aged 2 to 12 and proof of age is required. A $15 fee is also assessed per key.
As of July 1, 2016 all new NYU leases and renewing leases will require tenants to provide proof of Renters Insurance within thirty (30) days of the commencement of the new lease term. This measure will protect your personal property in the event it is damaged or destroyed as well as provide liability coverage in the event of an injury or loss to a third party while in your apartment.
New York University requires that all residents have renters insurance. NYU's group insurance program allows you to receive quotes from three of the nation's most respected insurance carriers. As an employee of NYU, you are automatically eligible to apply for policies with special discounts. To arrange for insurance, please visit or call the company below or a provider of your choosing.
• Phone: 866.486.1945
• Email: email@example.com
• Web: www.nyuvoluntarybenefits.com
Proof of renters insurance is required within 30-days of the lease start date. Once obtained, please submit a copy to Cushman and Wakefield located at 2 Washington Square Village #1-U (across from the lobby entrance of 2 Washington Square Village).
When calling you may be asked a series of questions the amount of property coverage desired, amount of liability coverage needed and what, if any, high end possessions you may want listed under your policy. Conducting a personal inventory is a key part of obtaining the appropriate amount of coverage. A good source for a guide to a personal inventory is the “Conducting a Personal Inventory” page on the Traveler’s website. See: https://www.travelers.com/personal-insurance/renters-insurance/personal-property-inventory.aspx. Additionally, you may be asked questions about the building in which you live:
• Construction of the building (frame, brick, fire resistive, etc)
• Number of units in the building/Number of units between firewalls
• Types of pets, if applicable
• Safety devices in the residence (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, sprinkler system, doorman/security guard)
If you require assistance answering and of these facility related questions, please contact the Client Services Center at 212.998.1001 and your call will be addressed by our Facilities Management team.
NYU Faculty Housing units are on the master account and require the transfer of ownership of the electricity account as of the first day of your lease. In order to open your new account, the master account must release your unit in advance of your lease start date. This may take effect up to 24 hours or even past your actual lease start date.
To set up an electricity account, contact Con Edison:
Please check the move in packet for apartment spelling.
Silver Towers Residents Only: Please do not contact Con Edison. Electricity service will be automatically added to your rent bill as electricity at Silver Towers is provided centrally to the building.
