1. How do I apply for rental housing?

To request university housing, faculty members must contact their dean. The Faculty Housing Office does not process any requests directly from faculty members. Only deans may submit a housing request, provided the faculty member qualifies for housing. Unfortunately, not all requests will be approved. Please be advised that housing resources are extremely limited and are primarily reserved for full-time tenured and tenure line faculty. Housing is also intended only as a primary residence.

For a detailed description of the University's housing policies and goals, please review the Provost's Statement of Policy on Faculty Housing This document describes the UniversityÕs explicit priorities for new housing assignments, established to best utilize our limited housing resources.

2. How do I sublet my apartment while I am on leave?

We have worked to simplify and streamline the sublet procedure for NYU housing. Please note that it is required you sublet to an NYU affiliate and you may only charge any subtenant a maximum of 10% over your own rental rate if the unit is furnished. Contact the Faculty Housing Office for details.

3. I am in housing, how may I change apartments?

A request for a housing change must also be submitted by your dean. If your request is approved, you will be shown an alternate apartment and can decide if you would like to move. There is often a significant wait for apartments, please be patient.

4. May I make renovations to my NYU apartment?

Please discuss all renovation ideas with the Faculty Housing Office before beginning. Your project may be approved if it does not significantly affect the layout of the apartment. If unauthorized changes are made, you will be responsible for restoring the apartment before move out.
