New York University's Equal Opportunity Office is responsible for advancing and monitoring the University's equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policies, procedures, and programs. It does so by making known the University's commitment to employ minority and women faculty and staff, by consulting with units on the implementation of these policies, and by carrying out utilization analyses for minority and women relative to national baseline data. Analyses, carried out with respect to recruitment, promotion, and departures, are used to identify areas of focus for future improvement.
In addition to, and as an outcome of the results of these analyses, the Office sponsors a variety of outreach activities and programs in conjunction with several groups at the University, including the Faculty Council. The Office also serves as liaison with the U.S. Department of Labor and other governmental agencies charged with affirmative action monitoring. To advance the University's commitment to affirmative action, the Office has responsibility for maintaining communication with organizations external to the University that represent the interests and perspectives of women and minorities and for advising and supporting the Schools and other administrative units of the University in their affirmative action implementation efforts.
The Office works closely with the Human Resources Division, the Office of Academic Appointments, and Information Technology Services in coordinating and monitoring our affirmative action program at the University level.
The Office also is responsible for advancing and monitoring the University's discrimination and harassment policies, procedures, and programs.
NYU's policies on equal employment, affirmative action, and sexual harassment are provided on this website for review.
