NYU's schools and colleges have unique communications needs. These schools, especially when those with both undergraduate and graduate programs, serve distinct constituencies. A significant portion of their communications is directed to an external audience, i.e., potential students, alumni, donors. In an effort to speak most clearly to those audiences and to distinguish themselves from their competitors, they are allowed more latitude to create a distinct logotype and visual identity. They are, however, required to include the full NYU logo in an endorsement position on all communications both print and web.
A school logotype departs from the institutional identity standards in a few significant ways:
- It can't include a mark or icon with the logotype
- It can use other fonts besides the Gotham font
- It must include the acronym, "NYU" which can be less prominent if desired.
An example of this usage is shown below.
