University Events Calendar

Image: date calendar

We finally did it!

We replaced our existing NYU Events Calendar with an application called LiveWhale Calendar. Many of you know that an updated Events Calendar has long been a key component of our NYU.edu strategy, and we are confident we have found a solution that will meet the University's current needs and set us up nicely for the future.

This new and improved NYU Event Calendar includes:

  • A modern and easy-to-use interface
  • Ability to add images to events
  • Basic RSVP functionality initially with enhancements already scheduled
  • New components to display events within NYU.edu and NYUHome pages
  • Ingestion of standard data feeds to show your existing events in the new calendar
  • APIs that allow us to power events in our mobile offerings and other sites across NYU

Take a look at the new Events Calendar at: events.nyu.edu

Tag Your Events

We've already mentioned adding images to Events and being able to RSVP to an Event, and here is some additional information about new features:

  • You can now assign Tags to Events (e.g., guest speaker, off-campus, series, workshop).
  • Some useful and popular Tags will be pre-entered into the Tag Library and will be auto-suggested to you as you type.
  • Some of those Tags will be auto-suggested to you because they are associated with a particular Category (e.g., if you assign an Event to the Arts Category, Tags like music, theatre, and film are auto-suggested to you).
  • Tags are optional, and you can enter any Tag in free-form fashion, regardless of it being in the Tag library already.
  • Site viewers will be able to search and filter Events by Tags.
  • Webmasters will be able to include and exclude Tags as part of API calls to the NYU Events Calendar to syndicate Events to their websites (e.g., listing of all Events tagged with “alumni” or “seminars.”)
