Install a Caption File

Closed captioning (or subtitling) is the process of displaying text at the bottom of the video player to provide additional or interpretive information to any site viewer who wishes to access it.

Closed captions typically show a transcription of the audio portion of a video as it occurs (either verbatim or in edited form), sometimes including non-speech elements.  The XML file will need to be generated by the unit creating the video or by an outside captioning resource.

To install a caption file:

  1. Go to the Digital Asset Manager (DAM) console. It is the one with the camera symbol.
  2. Navigate to the folder where you would like to store your .xml file. This is generally the "documents" folder.
  3. Click "New File" at the top of the console.
  4. Upload the .xml file. If you have never added content to the DAM, please click here.
  5. Activate the file.
  6. Add the video component to the page on which you are working.
  7. In the Video Properties tab, click the down arrow next to the Captions Path field. It will allow you to choose the .xml caption file from the DAM. The "Select Path" window will open allowing you to navigate through the DAM to your caption files.
  8. Navigate to the folder where you stored your XML asset.
  9. Highlight the file you wish to use.
  10. Click the OK button to finish.
