Adding Special Characters

You may wish to insert a special character into your text. For example, a copyright symbol (©) or a foreign currency symbol (£). These characters may be produced by either clicking on the "special characters" button (shaped like a blue star) in the Rich Text Editor menu or using a combination of keys on your keyboard.

  1. Use the Special Characters button
Type the word and highlight the letter in the word that needs to be replaced with a special character. Alternatively, click the special characters button and select the character you wish to replace.
  2. Use a keyboard shortcut
The keyboard combination will vary depending on your operating system.

    Macintosh:
Hold down the Option (and sometimes the Shift) key and a letter or number key.

    PC:
Hold down the Alt key and use the right-hand side numeric keypad (with the Number Lock on) to type a 3 to 4-digit number.
