Style Text

The style of your text is what makes it dynamic on the page.  Subheadings, links, bold, italic and underlining help users navigate the page.

  1. Highlight the specific text you would like to style, and (you may apply more than one style to the same portions of selected text):
    1. Bold, Italicize, or Underline: click the appropriate button within the Rich Text Editor toolbar
    2. Link or Edit a Link: click the Link button (globe icon with "link") from the Rich Text Editor toolbar, add/edit the necessary data in the link pop-up window. Either drag and drop files from the left column content finder or click the magnify glass to select the path to an asset or page.

      To link to external webpages or to email addresses, you will need include the appropriate protocol:

      Non-CMS page: Type in the URL (e.g. www.google.com)
      Secure non-CMS page: Type in the URL starting with https:// (e.g. https://www.home.nyu.edu)
      Email address: Add "mailto:" before the email address (e.g. mailto:do-not-reply@nyu.edu)

    3. Press OK to save the link information.
    4. Break Linked Text: press the Delete Link button (globe icon with red X on "link") in the Rich Text Editor toolbar
    5. Convert to Ordered or Unordered List: click the Ordered/Unordered button in the Rich Text Editor toolbar (text will automatically be numbered or bulleted if there are line breaks throughout the text)
    6. Nest or un-nest Ordered or Unordered List items: click the Indent button in the Rich Text Editor toolbar to nest items, and press the Outdent button to un-nest items
  2.  When finished, press the OK button to save the text to see it within the page.
  3. Click the magnifying glass icon in the Sidekick to open the page in Preview mode to ensure that all additions are as expected from the end-user's perspective.

This is the formatting for a paragraph. it is the standard format style.

The format menu is a list of predefined formats that can be applied to text. The majority of your text will be in paragraph format. Use the header tags to structure and organize your content within the page. Header 2 defines the most important heading while Header 5 defines the least important heading. Use the Blockquote format for long quotations (generally 4 lines or greater).

To create a hyperlink, drag and drop files or pages from the Content Finder into the Link to field. Alternatively, you can click the magnify glass, navigate to files or pages within the CMS, and select the path. External pages and email addresses require a protocol (http:// or mailto:).


Helpful Tips 

  • Avoid nesting lists
  • Use subheadings to improve content organization and page readability
  • Use block quotes for quotes four lines of text or more
