CMS Access

CMS Eligibility

Full-time faculty and staff, and full-time enrolled students (Graduate Assistant students who have received approval from the authorized Web content approver for the specific content area on which the student has been contracted to work) may request access to the CMS using an online application. The information in the submitted application will be confirmed by the authorized Web content approver and then sent to ITS/WebComm for final approval. If an applicant does not meet the eligibility criteria, the application will be rejected. Once approved, the individual will receive access to and be trained to maintain content on the University CMS (with access to the Production environment, Authoring instance only).

Non-NYU affiliates (e.g., Web consultants) must be sponsored for CMS access by the full-time faculty or staff member who is the content approver for the specific content area.

Note: The affiliate then must be assigned an NYU NetID, as per the instructions on the New NetID Assignment page. Once the NetID is obtained and the individual is authorized by ITS/WebComm, the non-NYU affiliate will be eligible to apply for access using the online form.

Access

The Digital Communications Group is transitioning administrative unit sites into the CMS on a rolling schedule. A list of the initial unit transition sites may be found on the CMS Migration page.

If Your Unit's Site Has Transitioned Into The CMS

To obtain access to your unit's site in the CMS, please get in touch with your primary site contact (unit administrator, webmaster, group leader, etc.) who will submit a request to the CMS Team on your behalf. The CMS Team will verify and approve requests in collaboration with the primary site contact.

Note:
Before receiving access, you will be required to attend a CMS Training session. Information on scheduled sessions will be provided to you once your access is approved. In this training, you will learn about how to navigate the CMS and how to add and edit content within your information domain. This training will NOT require any technical scripting knowledge; only a working knowledge of local file storage (like on your personal computer) and common office software (such as the Microsoft Office suite of products).

If Your Unit's Site Has Not Yet Been Transitioned Into The CMS

If you do not see your unit name in the list of transitioning sites on the CMS Migration page, please contact redesign@nyu.edu to find out when your unit's transition is scheduled.

Apply for a CMS Account

CMS Approvers may apply on behalf of a new CMS author by visiting the CMS Account Application page.

You must have the following information available to fill out the form:

  • The individual's NetID
  • Site Access Information (to what site should the individual have access?)

Procedure for Obtaining NetIDs for Affiliates (non-NYU Staff):

Non-NYU affiliates (e.g., Web consultants) must be sponsored for CMS access by the full-time faculty or staff member who is the content approver for the specific content area. Note: The affiliate then must be assigned an NYU NetID. Once the NetID is obtained and the individual is authorized by ITS/WebComm, the non-NYU affiliate will be eligible to apply for access using the online form.

More information may be found on the New NetID Assignment page.
