We provide a full range of construction and facilities services, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, landscape maintenance, recycling, custodial, air conditioning and heating, electrical and real estate services.

Custodial Services

Custodial Services goal is to maintain the highest level of cleanliness throughout NYU and to provide a relaxed environment conducive to learning.

Our Goal

We strive to provide top quality cleaning services to our customers. We are committed to exceeding expectations by providing courteous, quality and professional services to our customers.

Services

Custodial Services include cleaning and minor moving services.

Cleaning Services

Cleaning Services are provided by Collins Building Services. Services provided include: cleaning carpets, vacuuming, high/low dusting, changing light bulbs and setting up events at all NYU buildings. Depending on the nature of the service requested, there may be an additional charge for some services. Your Client Service Center representative will be able to address any specific questions or concerns you may have.

Moving Services

Moving Services are provided by commercial movers and all moving services are charged to the requestor. The movers may assist with moving items such as boxes, computers, furniture, etc.

For small moves limited to 10 items, please complete the Online Moving Request form. The form is available under the Forms section of the Website, click here.

EETS is now called "Sustainability, Energy and Technical Services"

Energy, Engineering & Technical Services, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Shop (HVAC Shop).

Mission

The primary focus of the Shop is to provide a comfortable environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors by maintaining and controlling the University's HVAC equipment.

Services

We are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the heating and cooling systems in academic and admininistrative buildings. Most heating and cooling repairs, as well as service calls are performed by HVAC Shop personnel.

The HVAC Shop also performs preventative maintenance (PM) service. PM is the routine inspection, care, and lubrication of the HVAC equipment.

Organization

The HVAC Shop is a 24 hour a day, 365 Day a year operation. The Shop's personnel are divided into 3 shifts including weekends and holidays. Shop personnel include managers, foreman, mechanics, mechanic helpers, and welders.

Building Services, Engineering Electrical & Technical Services.

The Utility Services provides the following services to the university properties:

Carpenters

Carpenters are responsible for maintaining ceilings, floors, walls, doors and furniture. Requests for custom furniture building, shelving installation or anything out of the realm of general building maintenance are chargeable services. The carpenters specialize in laminated surfaces such as Formica and Melamine fabrication and custom cabinetwork. All new work is done on a chargeable basis.

Electricians

Electricians maintain most high and low voltage systems throughout the academic facilities. They are also responsible for some service upgrades, trouble diagnosis, and installations. All electrical outlet, switch relocations, and installations are chargeable expenses to the requesting department.

NYU Garden Shop

The NYU Garden Shop designs and maintains exterior gardens and curb-side planters. They prepare for, and expedite all seasonal planting, with special attention to annual commencement beautification.

Locksmiths

Locksmiths provide keys for all university buildings. They also provide installation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical and electronic locking devices on doors and furniture. They are responsible for changing locks.

Changing a lock for any reason other than maintenance or repairs, as well as new installations are chargeable services.

A key request form is available for download. Please email this form to fcm.helpdesk@nyu.edu or to the Building Manager of the property the keys are being requested for. The email addresses of the Building Managers can be found by searching the F&CM Facilities Managers Directory.

Painters

Painters are responsible for maintaining almost all structural surfaces with regards to plastering and painting. Special requests for color changes are chargeable services and are subject to approval.

Window Cleaners

Window Cleaners are responsible for cleaning most windows in the academic buildings. They also conduct our pigeon control program that helps to prevent bird nesting and property damage.

Increase awareness of the importance of waste reduction and how it is helping NYU and the surrounding community.

Mixed Recycling

All plastics, paper, cardboard, metal and glass can go into the Mixed Recycling Bins. This includes all plastic containers and films, junk mail, pizza boxes, office paper, packaging boxes, metal cans, clean foil, clothes hangers and all glass containers.

Please do not put food contaminated items in the recycling bin. If any of the items listed above are soaked or covered with food and can not be rinsed off they should go into the trash bin.

Note: Mixed Recycling is being phased in across campus during 2009-2010. If your area does not have Mixed Recycling bins yet, please continue to sort recyclables according to the instruction stickers on the paper and cans/bottles bins.

Ink and Toner Cartridges

All types. Can be picked up by or delivered to the Recycling Shop, picked up by NYU mail Services with regular mail pick up, or dropped off at the Computer Store.

Cell Phones

Please contact the Recycling Shop to arrange pick up or drop off of old cell phones(s).

Technoscrap

Jewel cases, video tapes, cassettes, diskettes, CDs, DVDs and all type of cables and wires/wiring. Contact the Recycling Shop to arrange for pick up or have a GreenDisk Box delivered to your office for collection.

University Owned Computers and Furniture

If you have surplus items that may be re-usable, such as computers or furniture, contact Asset Management. They will determine if the item(s) is re-usable. If it is not, Asset Management staff will affix a yellow 'Disposal Sticker' and you can contact your FCM Client Services Center for disposal.

Universal Waste

Computer, computer components, TVs and electronics, light bulbs, batteries (any type) and paint. These items are collected within each building and disposed of properly by the EH&S Department. Contact your building manager for collection and EH&S with questions about universal waste. (Please note these items are classified as universal waste due to the presence of toxic materials with in them and handled seperately from other recyclables.)

Textbooks

The NYU Bookstore accepts recent textbooks for re-use and recycling. The bookstore does not accept donations of books that are more than 5 years old or any type of journal. Email the bookstore to arrange for pick up in the Washington Square campus area or drop off at their location.   

Plastic Bags

All NYU bookstore locations have plastic bag recycling collection containers. Plastic bags can also go into the mixed recycling bins.   

Everything Else

There are many places around the NYU community where you can donate items such as personal computers, used books, clothes, shoes, and furniture. Please see the Contacts & Resources: Local Donation Spots.
