Mixed Recycling
All plastics, paper, cardboard, metal and glass can go into the Mixed Recycling Bins. This includes all plastic containers and films, junk mail, pizza boxes, office paper, packaging boxes, metal cans, clean foil, clothes hangers and all glass containers.
Please do not put food contaminated items in the recycling bin. If any of the items listed above are soaked or covered with food and can not be rinsed off they should go into the trash bin.
Note: Mixed Recycling is being phased in across campus during 2009-2010. If your area does not have Mixed Recycling bins yet, please continue to sort recyclables according to the instruction stickers on the paper and cans/bottles bins.

University Owned Computers and Furniture
If you have surplus items that may be re-usable, such as computers or furniture, contact Asset Management. They will determine if the item(s) is re-usable. If it is not, Asset Management staff will affix a yellow 'Disposal Sticker' and you can contact your FCM Client Services Center for disposal.
Universal Waste
Computer, computer components, TVs and electronics, light bulbs, batteries (any type) and paint. These items are collected within each building and disposed of properly by the EH&S Department. Contact your building manager for collection and EH&S with questions about universal waste. (Please note these items are classified as universal waste due to the presence of toxic materials with in them and handled seperately from other recyclables.)
Textbooks
The NYU Bookstore accepts recent textbooks for re-use and recycling. The bookstore does not accept donations of books that are more than 5 years old or any type of journal. Email the bookstore to arrange for pick up in the Washington Square campus area or drop off at their location.
Plastic Bags
All NYU bookstore locations have plastic bag recycling collection containers. Plastic bags can also go into the mixed recycling bins.
Everything Else
There are many places around the NYU community where you can donate items such as personal computers, used books, clothes, shoes, and furniture. Please see the Contacts & Resources: Local Donation Spots.
