Osteoporosis is the loss of bone mass and determined using a bone density test. The Achilles Express screening device used in the session is a quick, painless, and non-invasive test that utilizes an ultrasonometer placed on the ankle. Test results are available within minutes. To achieve the most accurate test results, please refrain from wearing clothing that obstructs access to the ankle (i.e. stockings or other fabrics).
Please register for either or both of LiveSmart's spring screenings by sending an e-mail to email@example.com or calling 212-998-1272. When requesting an appointment, for each desired screening please include 1) your full name, 2) first, second, and third choice of appointment dates/times, and 3) contact information for location/confirmation. Registration is required. Appointments are available in 30 minute increments. Please note that retirees must present an NYU retiree ID card at the screening.
If this describes your child's status, please contact The Benefits Office so that the coverage may be cancelled and the monthly premium reduced, if applicable. It is the responsibility of - and may financially benefit - the retiree to maintain current records of child dependents by contacting NYU upon any change in status. Please note that this does not apply to retirees with dependent children covered under an active plan (Aetna, Oxford, or POS plans). Should you not utilize all of your retirement assets, naming a beneficiary (or beneficiaries) ensures that the balance is passed along according to your wishes. TIAA-CREF and/or Vanguard participants, and those covered by Prudential life insurance, may review and update beneficiary designations by visiting the plan websites and providing beneficiary instructions.
If you enroll in the NYU Retiree Medical Plan, as soon as you and/or your covered dependent(s) become eligible for Medicare (usually at age 65), Medicare will be the primary plan (pays first) and the NYU Retiree Medical Plan will be the secondary plan. This means that the NYU plan will generally only pay your medical claims after Medicare has paid its benefit. If you and/or your covered dependent(s) are eligible but have not enrolled for Medicare or
refused its coverage, the NYU plan still bases its payment on what Medicare would have paid on your behalf. This is why it is so important to enroll in Medicare benefits immediately upon eligibility. A new NYU retiree Benefits Resource Center (image below) will soon become available. Retirees will be able to access this personalized online tool to review their NYU benefits and request changes. Effective in 2013, the NYU Retirement Plan’s definition of an Eligible Employee has been amended to exclude Employees who normally work less than 20 hours per week or who work fewer than 1,000 hours per year.
Effective in 2012 onward, the NYU Retirement Plan is amended to include the Professional Research Staff in Codes 103/113 with the title of Post-Doctoral Associate, job code 017055, as an eligible job title for the NYU Retirement Plan.
