Notice of Increase in 2013 Contributions for NYU Retiree Medical Plans
Effective January 1, 2013, the cost of the NYU Retiree Medical Plan premiums will increase by approximately 4%.
If you are currently enrolled in the NYU Retiree Medical Plan and are interested in lower contributions and out of pocket expenses, you may want to consider enrolling in one of the Medicare HMOs that NYU makes available to retirees (Emblem Health, formerly called HIP-VIP, and United HealthCare Secure Horizons) if you are Medicare-eligible and reside in a covered service area. Or you may want to consider a non-NYU Medicare HMO available in the market if you are Medicare-eligible and reside in a covered service area.
For the 2013 Summary of Benefits for each plan, please click here. If you are not making any changes to your medical plan or level of coverage, you do not need to do anything. However, if you are making changes, contact The Benefits Office. Remember, if you have elected to continue your retiree life insurance, you will receive a separate bill from Prudential Insurance Company of America. If you have questions, contact The Benefits Office.
NYU Retirees: Stay in Touch, Stay Informed!
You may be retired, but you remain a valued and important member of the University community. To stay informed, current, and eligible, contact The Benefits Office if you:
Update your home address and phone number with NYU, particularly if you move out of your health plan’s coverage area as relocation may affect status. Additionally, if you hold accounts with TIAA-CREF, Vanguard, or the NYU Staff Pension Plan (JPMorgan Retirement Plan Services), you should also contact those providers directly using the contact information at the bottom of the column to the left.
To add a spouse or new dependent, notify the NYU Benefits Office within 31 days of the marriage or birth. In case of divorce or the end of a domestic partnership, notify the NYU Benefits Office within 31 days of your divorce or file a Domestic Partnership Termination form; you must notify the University so that former eligible dependents will have the right to continue benefit coverage for themselves under the federal COBRA law. Upon the death of a spouse or registered domestic partner, notify the NYU Benefits Office to update your medical insurance coverage. Additionally, please consider directing your own beneficiary or executor of your estate to notify the University in the event of your passing as soon as possible; an NYU Benefits Specialist will assist them in filing a life insurance benefits claim if you participated in this plan.
