A Welcome from the Dean

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) and to the exciting and challenging professional education program you have chosen. Much is expected of NYUCD students.You are expected to bring profound integrity and ethical character to every endeavor, while demonstrating the highest quality clinical knowledge and expertise. In return, you can expect the full partnership and support of our faculty, who take seriously their responsibility to provide you with outstanding clinical and basic science training in order to prepare you for a career marked by great success and fulfillment.

As a student at NYUCD, you will have contact with patients beginning in your second year and continuing throughout your education, during which you will partner with faculty in providing care for the largest, most heterogeneous patient population in our nation. Subsequently, as a graduate of NYUCD, you will appreciate and respect the diversity of the global village in which we live and possess vast experience in recognizing and treating a broad range of oral health conditions.

This Student Handbook has been designed to help you make the most of the unique opportunities available to you as an NYUCD student by acquainting you with key policies, protocols, guidelines, and extracurricular opportunities. I encourage you to read it carefully and refer to it often and also to get to know our Student Affairs staff, which is committed to creating the kind of nurturing community that will allow you to become not only a competent clinician, but also a terrific human being.
