Dr. Silva received his DDS at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1990. From the University of Sao Paulo (Bauru School of Dentistry), Brazil, he received his Masters degree (2000) and his PhD (2003) in the field of Prosthodontics (Oral rehabilitation). For six months in 2002 (Feb-May), he was a visiting professor at UMDNJ in New Jersey, USA. From June 2002 to June 2003, he was a research scientist at New York University College of Dentistry, New York, USA, where he completed his post-doctorate in the field of Biomaterials in December 2004. Currently, Dr. Silva is Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at New York University. He is member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), American Association for Dental Research (AADR), and the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Dr. Silva has published several articles, abstracts, and book chapters and is on the review boards of several publications. He has also served as primary mentor for Master on Science candidates, and co-mentor for PhD and Pos-doc candidates in the field of Biomaterials at New York University College of Dentistry. His research field of interest involves translational research, and laboratorial and clinical aspects for the success of ceramic restorations, which includes reliability of all ceramic restorations and implants as well as cementation procedures for esthetic restorations. Dr. Silva has been constantly granted for studies on improving life expectancy of ceramic restorations and he has been invited for several lectures worldwide.
