Housing

There is no place quite like New York City. Consequently, many people want to live and study here. That means the task of finding a suitable place to live can be a real challenge. However, the more informed and prepared you are the more likely it is that you will find satisfactory housing. The office of Housing and Residential Education at NYU assists all students with undergraduate, graduate and summer housing and strives to create supportive learning communities which results in a great university experience.

Residing in an NYU residence hall is a good option for dental students but not guaranteed with admission to the College of Dentistry. Admitted students are automatically mailed a housing application in April. Preference is given to students who apply for housing early and before the deadline of June 1.

Most questions about living on-campus during the academic year and/or during the summer can be answered by visiting the housing Web site. Once your application for housing has been received by the housing office, you may check the status of your application, complete a roommate matching questionnaire and learn of your room assignment (after August 1) simply by browsing the Web site.

NYU students are encouraged to explore both on-campus housing as well as off-campus housing opportunities. Realizing that not every student wishes to live in a residence hall, the NYU Off-Campus Housing Office shares listings of locations available for rent through private landlords, brokers and real estate agents. These listings, updated daily, can be accessed via computer at the Off-Campus Housing Office. The Off-Campus Web site provides important information concerning non-University housing such as working with real estate brokers, understanding leases, or finding a roommate. It includes helpful phone numbers, a glossary of real estate terms, and a map of the NYU area.
