Dr. Charles N. Dr. Sathya P. Kallur, ’99, Clinical Assistant Professor of Endodontics and of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, on being named a contributing editor to the National Board Dental Examination Part II Lecture Notes, and on copresenting “The Role of Dental Implants in the Treatment of Sleep Apnea” at a symposium sponsored by the World Association of Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Angela Kamer, Assistant Professor of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, on being named an Associate Editor of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

Dr. Ralph Kaslick, Clinical Professor of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, on receiving the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award presented by Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine, in recognition of his extensive contributions to dental education. Added kudos to Dr. Kaslick on being inducted into Heritage Hall at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Dr. Kaslick is a former Dean of the FDU College of Dentistry.

Dr. Ralph V. Katz, Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology & Health Promotion, on being profiled in the Tufts Dental Medicine Magazine on his research published as “The Tuskegee Legacy Project.” Dr. Katz is a 1969 graduate of the Tufts School of Dental Medicine. Added kudos to Dr. Katz on being invited to author two articles in his capacity as Director of the NYU Oral Cancer RAAHP (Research on Adolescent and Adult Health Promotion) Center, one for Il Dentista Moderna, providing an overview of the seven years of research conducted at the RAAHP Center, and the other a response for the Southern Medical Journal to an article on minority participation in biomedical research that had been published in Medicine.

Dr. Mladen Kuftinec, Professor of Orthodontics, on presenting a lecture entitled “Efficiency and Efficacy of the Interactive Self-ligation Systems: Evidence-based Conclusions,” at the Symposium on Interactive Self-ligation and Orthopedics; on presenting lectures entitled “Interactive Self-ligation: Conceptual Development,” “ISL: Duration and Timing of Treatment,” and “ISL: Biomechanics Applied to Efficiency of Treatment,” at the Annual Congress of the Mexican Association of Maxillofacial Orthodontics; on recording a presentation entitled “My Reasons for Using Interactive Self-ligation” for the Web site of the Mexican Association of Maxillofacial Orthodontics; and on authoring articles entitled “Good Use of a New Material Technology: BioForce Archwires” and “Shortening Overall Orthodontic Treatment Times Through the Use of the Interactive Self-ligating Attachments, System-R,” for Moja Praktyka.

Dr. Wayne Kye, Clinical Assistant Professor of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, on receiving the 2008 American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Foundation Fellowship to attend the ADEA/AAL Institute for Teaching and Learning in the Health Professions, and the 2008 AAP Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics.

Dr. Maureen McAndrew, ’83, Clinical Associate Professor of Cariology & Comprehensive Care, on completing the Academy of Academic Leadership Institute of Teaching and Learning Certificate Program and on copresenting a workshop entitled “Elder Abuse and Elder Law Update” at the Greater New York Dental Meeting, with Dr. Jan Levy, Clinical Associate Professor of Cariology & Comprehensive Care.

Dr. Amr Moursi, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, on presenting a new continuing education course entitled “Pediatric Dentistry for the General Dentist.” The course, cosponsored by the New York State Dental Foundation and NYUCD, is designed to increase the number of dentists who are comfortable treating infants and children, including those with special needs. Dr. Neal G. Herman, Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry, also spoke at the course, which was moderated by Ms. Jill Fenandez-Wilson, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Harold Sussman, Clinical Professor of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, on being invited to speak at the Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem. Dr. Sussman spoke on “Apical-implant Pathology” and on “Placing Mini-dental Implants for Overdenture Retention.” Dr. Sussman was also an invited speaker at the Federation Dentaire International Meeting in Indore, India, where he spoke on “Bone Grafting Materials.”

Dr. Cristina Teixeira, on presenting a lecture entitled "A New Regulator of Cartilage Maturation in Development and in Osteoarthritis” at the 34th Annual International Conference on Craniofacial Research.

Dr. Michael D.
