Teaching of Alternate Delivery Systems and Managed Care Furthered with a Gift from Dr. Stephen J. Cuchel and Dr. Martin Kane

A gift of $100,000 from Dr. Stephen J. Cuchel and Dr. Martin Kane, both Class of 1964, has been made to the College to provide students with the most current information regarding alternate dental delivery systems and managed care.

Dean Michael C. Alfano described the establishment of the Stephen J. Cuchel and Martin Kane Dental Endowment Fund as a valuable addition to the College's teaching program. "This fund will sponsor lectures in an area of immense importance and interest to all current and future dentists. With over 10 percent of Americans enrolling annually in managed dental care plans, and that number growing all the time, we recognize an obligation to prepare our students to choose a practice mode that will be right for them by making them familiar with the various options open to them."

Dr. Stephen Cuchel is the CEO and Dr. Martin Kane is the president of Healthplex, Inc., one of the earliest and largest dental insurance companies, which they founded in 1979. Dr. Cuchel also serves on the NYU dental faculty as a clinical associate professor of CCAPA. In 1989, thanks to Drs. Cuchel and Kane, a gift from Healthplex, Inc., was made to establish the Douglas Cohen Memorial Scholarship in memory of the deceased son of one of their classmates, Howard Cohen.
