Dr. Milton Tuerk, Class of 1941, has been honored with the naming
of the Milton Tuerk Cleft Palate Center at St. Charles Hospital in Port
Jefferson, New York.
'50s
Dr. John D. Tabak, Class of 1954, has been appointed associate
professor of community dentistry and director of postdoctoral general
dentistry programs at the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental
Medicine. Dr. Tabak is also a licensed health care risk manager and a
diplomate of the American Board of Risk Management Professionals.
Dr. Irving Bernstein, Class of 1955, presented the lecture "Orofacial
Pain, TMJ Dysfunction, and Occlusion" at the Greater New York Dental Meeting.
Dr. Sheldon Winkler, Class of 1956, was named Honorary Professor
at the Pierre Fauchard School of Dentistry in Paraguay. He is the first
person to be awarded this distinction.
Dr. Robert Seminara, Class of 1957, has been appointed director
of dental medicine at New York Methodist Hospital.
'60s
Dr. Herbert I. Bader, Class of 1961, coauthored "Long-Term Monitoring
of Adult Periodontitis Patients in Supportive Periodontal Therapy: Correlation
of Gingival Crevicular Fluid Proteases with Probing Attachment Loss" for
the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.
Dr. Stephen J. Baer, Class of 1961, received the Gary Strong Memorial
Award of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.
Dr. Paul Dworkis, Class of 1961, serves as chairman of the Peer
Review Committee of the Bronx County Dental Society.
Dr. Frederic J. Sherman, Class of 1961, serves as chairman of the
Ethics Committee of the San Fernando Valley Dental Society.
Dr. Peddrick Weis, Class of 1963, was elected to fellowship in
the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Steven I. Gold, Class of 1966, was elected president-elect
of the Northeastern Society of Periodontists. Dr. Gold also received a
Distinguished Alumnus Award from Columbia University (postdoctoral program
in periodontics).
'70s
Dr. Lewis T. Kulik, Class of 1970, recently completed a term as
president of the Rotary Club of New York.
Dr. Marvin A. Fier, Class of 1971, authored "The Deciduous Dilemma
in the Adult Dentition" for Dentistry Today.
Dr. Michael S. Swartz, Class of 1971, has been elected president
of the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Dr. Ira M. Kelmons, Class of 1972, presented the lecture "Successful
Treatment of Tinnitus in Patients with TMJ Dysfunction" at Overlook Hospital
in New Jersey.
Dr. Allen B. Horn, Class of 1973, spoke on the topic "Endodontics
for the 21st Century" at the New Jersey Dental Association Annual Meeting.
Dr. Steven E. Schonfeld, Class of 1973, was elected to fellowship
in the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Harry P. Myers, Class of 1974, was elected to fellowship in
the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Richard M. Feinberg, Class of 1978, was the subject of a feature
article that appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune. The article
described Dr. Feinberg's work as the dental director of the Logan Heights
Family Health Center, a facility located in a large, urban, underserved
area.
'80s
Dr. David J. Shuch, Class of 1983, spoke on the topic "Homeopathy:
A Welcome Addition to Our Armamentarium" at a meeting of the New York
County Dental Society.
Dr. David B. Rosenberg, Class of 1983, spoke on the topic "Apical
Control: Mastering Our Domain," at the American Association of Endodontists
Annual Session.
Dr. David C. Reff, Class of 1983, authored "Human Anatomy and Physiology"
for the Learning Resources Manual.
Dr. Barry C. Saltz, Class of 1984, was cited as Best Local Dentist
in a reader's poll published in the Portland (Maine) Sunday Telegram.
Dr. Saltz is president-elect of the Maine Dental Association.
Dr. Anthony I. Wong, Class of 1986, presented a lecture on HIV/AIDS
at the Central District Dental Association Summer Meeting in Orlando,
Florida. Dr. Wong is president-elect of the Florida Society of Dentistry
for Children and chairman of the Infection Control Committee of the Dental
Society of Greater Orlando.
Dr. Keith R. Chertok, Class of 1987, received a fellowship award
from the American Jewish Committee (AJC). The award funds leadership training
for a member of the Board of Governors of the AJC.
Dr. Christine Vice, Class of 1987, was inducted as a fellow of
the Academy of General Dentistry.
'90s
Dr. Gerardo Santiago, Class of 1991, volunteers his professional
services to the Christina's Smile Mobile Dental Clinic when it visits
Collier County annually. The Christina's Smile organization sponsors a
free dental clinic for underprivileged children, in conjunction with the
Senior PGA Tour. Dr. Santiago is a recipient of the Man of the Year award
for professional excellence in Collier County.
Dr. Russell A. Gornstein, Class of 1994, coauthored "Similarities
Between an Acellular Dermal Allograft and a Palatal Graft, for Tissue
Augmentation: Clinical Report" for Periodontal Insights and "Androgens
Modulate Interleukin-6 Production by Gingival Fibroblasts in Vitro" for
the Journal of Periodontology.
Dr. Christina L. Klein, Class of 1997, has been appointed to a
standing committee on dental practice of the Second District Dental Society.
Dr. Lee R. Cohen, Class of 1998, spoke on the topic "Dental Licensure
Reform in the United States" at the 1999 ASDA Annual Session. Dr. Cohen
is doing postdoctoral work in periodontics at the University of Florida
College of Dentistry, where he serves as a faculty adviser to the Alpha
Omega Dental Fraternity.
