Dr. Jonathan L. Ferencz, Class of 1971, clinical professor of restorative and prosthodontic sciences (prosthodontics), on becoming a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontics.
Laura R. Fuentes, Class of 2001, vice president of the Hispanic Student Dental Association, on being selected as one of only six people in the United States to be commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1999. Laura recently completed a six-week tour of active duty in Fort Duchesne, Utah, at a local Indian reservation, where she provided primary and preventive dental care services to the community.
Dr. Bert D. Gaster, Class of 1950, associate professor of CCAPA and restorative and prosthodontic sciences, on receiving the 1999 Student Council Appreciation Award.
Dr. Robert S. Glickman, associate professor of surgical sciences (oral and maxillofacial surgery), acting chairman of the Mecca Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and director of the Advanced Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, on being elected a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Gary R. Goldstein, Class of 1969, professor of restorative and prosthodontic sciences (prosthodontics) and director of the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics, on his election as president of the Omega Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society.

Dr. Yon H. Lai, Class of 1989, clinical associate professor of growth and developmental sciences (orthodontics), on his election as president-elect of the Chinese American Dental Association.
Dr. I.N. Quartararo, Class of 1952, clinical professor of surgical sciences (endodontics), on his selection as the year 2000 recipient of the Dr. Herbert L. Taub Achievement Award presented by the Nassau County Dental Society for outstanding service to organized dentistry.
Dr. George W. Scott, clinical assistant professor of growth and developmental sciences (orthodontics), on recently completing a term as president of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontists and being elected a director of the Middle Atlantic Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Andrew I. Spielman, associate professor of basic sciences (oral medicine and pathology) and acting head of the Division of Basic Sciences, on his election as president elect of the American Association of Oral Biologists. Dr. Spielman also coauthored "The Arginine Taste Receptor" for Olfaction and Taste XII, vol. 855 of the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences and "Possible Novel Mechanism for Bitter Taste Mediated Through cGMP" for the American Physiological Society. Recent lectures include "Taste Biochemistry, Physiology, and Taste Disorders" and "Degustibus . . . Disputandum, the Peripheral Mechanisms of Bitter Taste" in Budapest, Hungary; "Rapid Kinetics of Second Messenger Formation in Bitter Taste" at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York; and "The Peripheral Mechanisms of Bitter Taste" at Boston University.

Dr. John R. Antonelli, clinical professor of CCAPA and restorative
and prosthodontic sciences (operative dentistry), on coauthoring "A New
and Indirect Working Die Technique for Fabricating Temporary Restorations"
and "Inflammatory Papillary Hyperplasia: Supraperiosteal Excision by the
Blade-Loop Technique" for General Dentistry.
Dr. Antonelli's coauthors on the latter article included Dr. Francis V.
Panno, professor and head of the Division of Restorative and Prosthodontic
Sciences and chairman of the Blatterfein Department of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Sanford J. Bier, clinical professor of surgical sciences (periodontics),
on coauthoring "The Versatility of Calcium Sulfate: Resolving Periodontal
Challenges" for Compendium. Dr. Bier's coauthor was Dr. Mayer C.
Sinensky, clinical assistant professor of surgical sciences (periodontics).
Dr. A. Norman Cranin, Class of 1951, clinical professor of surgical
sciences (oral and maxillofacial surgery) and implant dentistry, on authoring
the textbook Atlas of Oral Implantology.
Dr. Shahram Emtiaz, Class of 1989, clinical associate professor
of implant dentistry, on coauthoring "Evaluation of the Nine Apical Foramen
Locators for Endodontics Use," for Compendium. Dr. Emtiaz's coauthor
was Dr. Bapanaiah Penugonda, associate professor of CCAPA and restorative
and prosthodontic sciences (dental materials science).
Dr. Graziano D. Giglio, Class of 1987, clinical associate professor
of restorative and prosthodontic sciences (prosthodontics), on authoring
"Abutment Selection in Implant-Supported Fixed Prosthodontics" for the
International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. George M. Gluck, Class of 1958, associate professor of CCAPA,
on coauthoring "Children's Sense of Pleasure from Nitrous Oxide During

Dr. Stephen J. Moss, Class of 1959, professor emeritus of pediatric

Dr. Kambiz Afshar-Mohajer, Class of 1975 (Advanced Education Program
in Periodontics), clinical professor of surgical sciences (periodontics),
on presenting the lecture "A Review of the Concept and Techniques in Implant
Dentistry" at the annual meeting of the Iranian American Medical Association.
Dr. Stanley J. Antonoff, Class of 1957, clinical professor of restorative
and prosthodontic sciences (prosthodontics) and director of the Learning
Disability Program, on presenting the lecture "Juvenile Justice, Dyslexia
and Other Learning Disabilities" at the International Dyslexia Association
meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Dr. Frederick H. Kahn, Class of 1964, clinical professor of surgical
sciences (endodontics), on presenting the lecture "The Endoscope: The
Future Is Here Now" at the 1999 annual meeting of the American Association
of Endodontists. Dr. Kahn's copresenter was Dr. Barnet B. Schulman, instructor
