Salivary diagnostics; HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Principal investigator on a five-year, $6.2 million NIH grant awarded in 2007 for research to define the interactions between host defense molecules and bacteria in HIV infection and subsequent antiretroviral therapy; principal investigator on a five-year, $9 million NIH grant awarded in 2006 to study oral fluid-based diagnostics.

How HIV infection becomes AIDS.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
An authority on the molecular biology of HIV; recipient of an Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Scholar Award; holds several patents for technology developed to test compounds that may inhibit HIV; in a 2008 study, produced evidence of cooperation between viruses, creating a new mode for HIV replication.
