The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the basic application form for most student aid programs. We strongly encourage students to apply for financial aid electronically by using FAFSA on the Web (www.fafsa.ed.gov), the fastest and most accurate method; the FAFSA is transmitted directly to the U.S. Department of Education and eliminates the additional processing time associated with a traditional printed form. This process is quicker and better for you and for New York University. FAFSA on the Web permits you to review the status of your submitted application and make changes if necessary.
The current FAFSA is available beginning January 1. It is never too late to apply for financial aid. Be sure to specify New York University in the school section of the FAFSA: the federal school code number for NYU is 002785.
Students and parents of dependent students may use a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to sign the FAFSA electronically and avoid the need to print and mail a signature page. The PIN can be used each year to apply for federal student aid and to review your record online at the U.S. Department of Education. Request your PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. You will receive your PIN by e-mail or mail depending on whether you and your parents provide an e-mail address. It will take approximately 1-3 business days after you request your PIN for you to receive an e-mail notification with instructions on how to retrieve it electronically, or 7-10 days to receive it in the mail via the U.S. Postal Service.
