Dr George J. Cisneros is Professor and Chair of Orthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. A recipient of the prestigious Milo Hellman Award from the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), his main research interests include the evaluation of facial growth and development using nuclear medical imaging techniques, the diagnosis and treatment of patients with obstructive sleep apnea, the impact of fixed orthodontic appliance design upon the efficiency of tooth movement and the study of various computer-imaging technologies.

Other research interests include the use of speech appliances in children with velopharyngeal insufficiency, the relationship between malocclusion and speech sound production, as well as, patient self-image and perception of need for orthodontic care. He has published more than 30 original articles and has been a member of the IADR/AADR and the Craniofacial Biology Group since 1983.

Dr. Cisneros is a reviewer for various journals including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Angle Orthodontist, the Journal of Dentistry for Children, and the Journal of Pediatric Dentistry where he also served as a member of their Editorial Board. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics, serving on both of their advisory committees. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. For nearly 20 years he served as the Dental Director of the Craniofacial Disorders team at Montefiore Medical Center and Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Cisneros has been a site visitor in Orthodontics for the ADA Commission of Dental Accreditation. He is also the immediate past-chair for the Orthodontic Section of the American Dental Education Association and the current chair of the Council on Orthodontic Education for the American Association of Orthodontists. He also developed and established two Advanced Education Training Programs in the specialty of Orthodontics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, and Saint Barnabas Hospital, both in New York City.
