Overview:

Dr. Russell has been on the faculty of NYUCD since 1996, when she came to New York following her training in public health, periodontics and geriatrics at the University of Connecticut Health Center. She was granted a four-year leave of absence in 2004, and returned to the dental school last December after receiving a PhD in epidemiology and public health from Yale University. Her research projects have ranged from periodontal disease in elderly Swedes to the relationship between oral health and lung disease, to causal analysis studies which explore the relationship between social class and oral health. Her current primary area of interest is women's oral health.

Dr. Russell currently teaches in the undergraduate dental clinics, and lectures extensively on topics related to the epidemiology of periodontal disease to the dental and dental hygiene students. In addition, she directs a course in review of clinical protocols for the MS in Clinical Research Program.
