COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Core Disaster Life Support (CDLS ®) course is an introduction to "all-hazards" preparedness. The course provides a brief overview of natural and accidental manmade events, traumatic and explosive events, nuclear and radiologic events, biological events, and chemical events. The focus of the course is to discuss and apply a unique approach to disaster management called the D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R paradigm. The overarching aim is to introduce participants to basic concepts and terms that are reinforced in greater detail in the BDLS® and ADLS® courses. This course is for all medical professionals who would like to be trained in bioterrorism preparedness, including: EMTS, Allied Health Professionals, Law Enforcement, Medical Reserve Corps, Police, Firefighters, Emergency Management Personnel, Government Officials, Health Care Administrators, Social Workers and Disaster Relief Workers. New York University College of Dentistry is an AMA authorized training site to present these courses.

Bio
Dr. David L. Glotzer is a Clinical Professor in Cariology and Comprehensive Care at New York University College of Dentistry. He received his dental degree from NYUCD and has been involved in two major areas of interest at the College. One, is the paradigm shift in the approach to Caries from a surgical to a medical approach and to the understanding that caries is a bacterial infection caused by specific bacteria, and is a reversible multifactoral process. The second is an initiative to define a role for dentists in a public health surge response to a major disaster situation. This includes being on the Co-Chair, Dean's Committee for Catastrophe Response, involved in curriculum changes, developing an emergency management plan, seeking additional training opportunities and participation in a DHS grant with the School of Medicine. Dr. Glotzer is a certified instuctor for AMA, NDLS, courses and is on Advisory Board, NYC, Medical Reserve Corps. He has also published numerous articles on this topic.
