COURSE OVERVIEW:
While there are a variety of congenital conditions, the vast majority of cases presenting for aesthetic therapy are ones with deformities coming from aging, dental caries, periodontal disease and progressive loss of dentition. In most cases it is impossible
to “correct” these aesthetic problems without first bringing under control the underlying pathology. For example, it’s a little crazy to provide bonding or laminates for teeth which are flared without first correcting the underlying causes for the teeth
to be flared. This usually relates to what might be best called Occlusal Breakdown, a downhill process leading to Bite Collapse and to inexorable loss of the dentition.
This program will illustrate the steps in the decline of the dentition, provide a simple classification for assessment of a deteriorating occlusion, and provide a comprehensive guide to bringing back the desired form, function, aesthetics and stability that is need for a long term successful result.
Once this conceptual framework is established then it will be easier to appreciate the multi-disciplinary approach required for therapy. This includes tooth movement, periodontal therapy, occlusal adjustment, implant and restorative therapy.
Course Objectives:
- Illustrate steps in the decline of the dentition
- Provide classification for assessment of a deteriorating occlusion
- Provide a comprehensive guide to bringing back the desired form, function, aesthetics and stability for a long-term successful result
- Understand the multi-disciplinary approach required for therapy
