Fees and Expenses

(The Board of Trustees of New York University reserves the right to alter this schedule of fees without notice).

Half the tuition must be paid in full in August and the remainder in January. A penalty fee will be charged for returned checks. Checks and drafts are to be drawn to the order of New York University for the exact amount of tuition and fees required.

Hygiene students should consult the Office of Financial Aid immediately if they register for, or drop to, fewer points than they indicated they would take on the Application for Financial Aid. A change in enrollment status may affect the financial aid they receive. It may also affect the student's financial obligation to the University by making the student immediately responsible for any charges incurred up to the point of withdrawal.

The unpaid balance of a student's account is subject to an interest charge of 12 percent per annum from the first day of class until payment is received.

Holders of New York State Tuition Assistance Program Awards will be allowed credit toward their tuition fees in the amount of their entitlement, provided they are enrolled on a full-time basis and they attach to their schedule/bill the Award Certificate for the applicable term.

Arrears Policy

The University reserves the right to deny registration and withhold all information regarding the record of any student who is in arrears in the payment of tuition, fees, loans, or other charges (including charges for housing, dining, or other activities or services) for as long as any arrears remain.

Payment of Fees for Graduation

No candidate may be recommended for a degree until all outstanding bills have been paid in full. The University cannot be responsible for the inclusion in the current official graduation list of any candidate who makes payment after the first day of May, September, or January for degrees in May, September, or January, respectively. Following payment and upon approval of the faculty, the candidate will be recommended for the degree as of the date of the next regular meeting of the University Board of Trustees at which the awarding of degrees is a part of the order of business.

Health Insurance Fee

Most matriculated student will be automatically enrolled in one of two Student Health Insurance plans:

  1. Comprehensive Health Insurance Benefit Plan
The following students are enrolled automatically in the Comprehensive Plan:
    • All international students with F-1 or J-1 visa status, regardless of credit load or degree status.
    • All students in degree-granting or post-doctoral programs registered for 6 or more credits.
  2. Basic Health Insurance Benefit Plan
The following students are automatically enrolled in the Basic Plan:
    • Undergraduate students registered for 9 or more credits*:
*Students automatically enrolled in either Plan can change between plans, or waive the plan entirely (and show proof of other acceptable health insurance). For an additional cost, the spouse, same-sex partner and/or dependent children) of a matriculated student may also be covered under the student's insurance policy. Instruments

Students are required to rent instrument kits each year through the College of Dentistry. These instruments and supplies are selected by the Instrument Committee in conjunction with individual disciplines with careful consideration to quality, ease of use, and cost effectiveness. Students may purchase additional items as they are needed from the Henry Schein Dental Supply store on the sixth floor of the Weissman Building.

The VitalBookTM Books and Computer-based Materials

NYU has effectively incorporated information technology into its curriculum in many ways. One way has been to adopt the VitalBookTM to replace traditional books, effective fall 2001. The VitalBookTM gives each student a license for all of the textbooks in the entire curriculum-over 75 of them-in the form of several digital versatile disks (DVD). The VitalBookTM software allows the student to search the contents of the books to find specific information. The VitalBookTM is updated every six months, and on graduation the student retains the last edition of the disk indefinitely. The VitalBookTM is a powerful tool that prepares students most effectively for their careers in the dental profession. Every student is required to obtain a copy of the disk/software as part of his or her registration. Students are also required to have a laptop computer available. The details of the VitalBookTM and the NYU computer requirements can be accessed through the NYU College of Dentistry Web site: http://www.nyu.edu/dental/compreq.html. NYU provides a full-service computer store and a deferred purchase program for students.
