Departments
The departmental structure of the dental education program at the NYU College of Dentistry reflects the College's
conviction that dental practitioners require a greater understanding of the complex biological basis of dentistry.
Accordingly, the faculty and administration have moved to implement a comprehensive plan to build stronger bridges
between the clinical and basic sciences.
Relationships between disciplines and departments are emphasized and reemphasized throughout the four years of study.
Overall administrative and financial responsibility for each department is vested in a department chair.
This approach to dental education emphasizes optimal integration of educational materials, expanded intellectual
exchange among disciplines, and interdisciplinary research and collaboration. It is an approach that is beneficial to training
competent oral health care providers who will contribute meaningfully to the dramatic breakthroughs that will occur in
dentistry.
