- The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited secondary school and have a grade point average of 2.5 (80 percent) with a combined SAT score of 1,000 or higher, or a grade point average of 3.0 from 12 credits of college study. Official transcripts and or translated and evaluated documents (for foreign credentials) must be submitted from all previously attended academic institutions.
- Biology and chemistry are the prerequisite courses that must be successfully completed at the high school or college level with a grade of at least 80, within a 10-year period before the student's matriculation at the College of Dentistry. NOTE: The pre-requisite chemistry course does not transfer in place of the Chemistry for Allied Health core Dental Hygiene course.
- Graduate Equivalent Diplomas (GEDs) are acceptable; however, the applicant will need to prove grades in the prerequisite areas within a 10-year period at 80 percent, either at a high school or college level. An official GED document must be included with proof of prerequisite courses.
- Foreign transcripts, high school and or college must be translated (if not in English) and evaluated course-by-course with a grade point average by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. - All applicants must submit a passport photograph, two letters of recommendation (sealed) AND a typed personal statement stating why they are interested in the dental hygiene profession along with the application.
- Review of The College of Dentistry’s policy on Blood Borne Pathogens, which can be accessed on the college website at www.nyu.edu/dental.
