Hygiene Program Alumni Announcements

About NYUCD Hygiene Alumni:

The New York University College of Dentistry's Allied Health Program was established in 1990 and graduated its first class in 1992. To date, approximately 500 Alumni have earned either an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree through the Allied Health Program.

Training the Best:

The 2005 Commencement and Graduation ceremonies are expected to be two especially memorable events for all candidates of the College of Dentistry's Allied Health Programs. This year there are:

. 65 candidates for the Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS), 15 of whom will graduate with honors.

. 6 candidates for the Bachelor of Science degree (BS), 3 of whom will graduate with honors.

. In addition, 5 new students and 2 honorary faculty members will be inducted into the Sigma Phi Alpha Psi Honor Society.

Hygiene Alumni News:

. The first Dental Hygiene Symposium was held on October 20, 2005. This event brought together alumni, faculty, students, and practice dental hygienists for a continuing education course. The guest speakers were Cathy Jameson, PhD, Dianne Pollard, RDH, MHP, and Julie Ruggiero. The topics on management, implants, and chemotherapeutics were exciting and informative. The event was well received and will be planned again for next fall. Stay tuned.

. The Sigma Phi Alpha Honor Society is the national honor society for Dental Hygiene. The NYU Psi Chapter is active and each year it hosts an induction luncheon for the top 10% of the graduating class as new inductees. The chapter also sponsors continuing education courses and awards scholarships with the funds. This fall Leslie Andrews, RDH, MBA presented on Women's Wellness, sponsored by Philips Oral Healthcare. This highly relevant topic and Leslie's engaging style created a very successful course. Leslie is District Trustee for the national Sigma Phi Honor Society.

. Our program enrollment is strong and this year we accepted 76 new students. The total enrollment is now 210 students in the AAS and BS tracks. There are many types of tracks, both day and evening, for the curriculum, which adds flexibility for our students. Forty applicants attended an open house on November 11 showing great interest in our programs for next fall.
