Alumni & Friends
Dear Alumni & Friends:
Please know how fortunate we feel to be the beneficiary of your support. Thanks to your generosity, NYUCD has been able to move forward on a number of fronts, as follows: |
 |
Academic Affairs
- Recent results of the National Board Dental Examinations (Part I) show an overall pass rate for NYU students of 98.6 percent, four points above the national average.
- The applicant pool for the fall 2009 DDS entering class remained robust and continued to increase, beating the national average. Most important, the GPA of incoming students, which has been trending upwards in recent years, also continued to rise.

Facilities
The moment you enter NYUCD from the main entrance on First Avenue and 24th Street, it’s clear that something has changed. Revolving doors offer greater ease of access; a second entrance complete with electric lift next to the stairs is designed to better accommodate those with disabilities; and the main lobby features new tiles, recessed lighting, and a dramatic circular ceiling fixture.
The second floor opens onto a newly-renovated, 13,268 square foot, architecturally stunning space devoted to comprehensive care, urgent care, and oral and maxillofacial surgery, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Gary and Alyse Ruth (the Gary and Alyse Ruth Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Wing); Dr. Stanley N. Turetsky (the Stanley N. Turetsky Urgent Care Suite), and Henry Schein, Inc. (the Henry Schein Cares Wing).
We have also added another new location to our campus to accommodate our expanding academic community. In addition to space at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and at 250 Park Avenue South, we now have a third campus satellite, at 380 Second Avenue, which provides 7,000 square feet of much-needed additional space.

Recruitment of Senior Faculty
The past year was notable also for the number and quality of senior faculty recruited, including Dr. Nicola Partridge, a national and international authority in the areas of molecular endocrinology and bone and mineral research, who just received a $1.5 million NIH grant for craniofacial bone research. In addition to Dr. Partridge, senior faculty in the areas of comprehensive care, pediatric dentistry, and oral & maxillofacial pathology, radiology & medicine have also been recruited.
None of these accomplishments would be possible without your support and commitment to NYUCD’s future as a world-class institution. I hope that you will continue to give generously during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Sincerely,
Charles N. Bertalomi
Herman Robert Fox Dean
