Oral Surgery/Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
The Advanced Program for International Dentists in Oral Surgery/RCSI is a full-time, three-year program affiliated and credentialed by the internationally recognized Oral Surgery Program at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. This program is designed for internationally trained dentists who seek to improve their clinical skills and plan on practicing dentistry outside of the United States.
Objective: To increase the student's understanding of the biological basis of oral and maxillofacial theory and practice.
Clinical Curriculum Includes:
- Bone grafting techniques
- Complex extractions
- Pre-prosthetic surgery
- Endodontic surgery
- Sinus floor augmentation
- Implant surgery
- Dentoalveolar trauma/reconstruction
Participants treat a variety of patients under the guidance of a diverse and experienced faculty.

Prerequisites for RCSI Program:
Upon successful completion of the Oral Surgery/RCSI Program, students receive certification from NYUCD. In addition, the participants become eligible to take Part II of the MFD examination at the end of year one and the internationally recognized Fellowship of the Faculty of Dentistry (FFDRCSI OSOM) examination in year three. All clinical experience will take place at New York University College of Dentistry.
Program Director - Dr. Brendan O'Connor
About Dr. Brendan O'Connor:
Dr. Brendan O'Connor, M.B., B.Ch. B.A.O., B.D.S., is the Program Director for the Advanced Programs for International Dentists in Oral Surgery & RCSI at New York University College of Dentistry. Following extensive training in Ireland, England, Rochester, New York, and Seattle, Washington, he returned to New York to accept his position at NYUCD as well as a position as an attending at the Jacob Medical Center and North Bronx Hospital. Dr. O'Connor was instrumental in establishing links between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and NYUCD, which ultimately led to the development of the Advanced Program for International Dentists' three year Oral Surgery/RCSI training program. As a result of this partnership, the first examination of the MFD Part II was offered at NYUCD in September, 2011, marking the first time the examination has taken place in the United States.
Clinical Director - Huzefa Talib
About Dr. Huzefa Talib:
Dr. Huzefa Talib, BDS, MFDRCSI, FFDRCSI (OSOM), received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in July 1998 from the University of Pune in India. He maintained private practices in Pune, India (1999-2001), Sharjah, UAE (2002-2004), and Dubai, UAE (2004-2007). Dr. Talib graduated from the Advanced Program in Oral Surgery for International Dentists/Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) in 2010, and passed the MFD and FFD in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He is also a member of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Dr. Talib was recently appointed a Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and is Clinical Director of the Advanced Programs for International Dentists in Oral Surgery/RCSI (Oral Surgery with Oral Medicine).
