Awards and Prizes
There are a number of awards presented to students for excellence
and for high academic standards in dental hygiene. They are bestowed
on those students who best qualify for these awards.
The Sigma Phi Alpha Honor Society Award is presented to two
graduating dental hygiene students in recognition of outstanding scholarship,
moral character, and the potential for future growth and attainment.
The Professionalism Award is presented to two graduating dental
hygiene students for demonstrating superior clinical competence and
conscientiousness in patient care.
The Golden Scaler Award is awarded to the senior dental hygiene
student who has demonstrated a high degree of clinical skill and compassion
for patients.
The Dental Hygiene Association of the State of New York President’s
Award is presented to a graduating dental hygiene student who
has exhibited strong interest and involvement in the Student Association
Chapter and the future of dental hygiene.
The Proctor & Gamble Award is granted to the senior dental
hygiene student who has exhibited outstanding clinical competence
and dedication to the ideals of dental hygiene and preventive dentistry.
The Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association Advanced Studies
Award is presented to a graduating dental hygiene student in recognition
of dedication to continuing scholarship through the pursuit of a baccalaureate
degree.
The Stevenson Award is presented to a senior dental hygiene
student typifying excellence in the delivery of oral hygiene care
and scholastic achievement.
The Long Island Odontology Award is presented to a senior dental
hygiene student on the basis of excellent scholarship and clinical
proficiency.
The Proficiency Award of the Dental Hygiene Association of the City
of New York is presented to a graduating dental hygiene student
who has exhibited great proficiency in dental hygiene skills and active
participation in the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association.
The Student Council Award is conferred on the senior dental
hygiene student who best exemplifies dedication to the profession
and leadership and service to the student body.
The Warner-Lambert Table Clinic Award is presented to a senior
dental hygiene student who has excelled in the presentation of a table
clinic in dental hygiene.
The Warner-Lambert Award is presented to a graduating dental
hygiene student for high achievement and professionalism.
Sigma Phi Alpha
Sigma Phi Alpha is the national honor society of the dental hygiene
profession. Membership in Sigma Phi Alpha comprises dental hygiene
educators and graduates with high scholastic achievement. The purpose
of Sigma Phi Alpha is to promote, recognize, and honor scholarship,
service, and character among students and graduates of dental hygiene
programs. Sigma Phi Alpha grants scholarships yearly to candidates
selected from active school chapters.
